Stephen James Woolwich is looking for a Bodyshop Paint Technician Apprenticeship.

Your role

As an apprentice pant technician at Stephen James, you will be working in a busy BMW/MINI Bodyshop, where you will be responsible for repairing accident-damaged motor vehicles to the high standards of the BMW/MINI brand.

During the time spent at your BMW Bodyshop, a mentor will be allocated to oversee the work-based learning program, and you will attend a centralised Bodyshop training facility for off-the-job training. This centre is equipped with BMW Cars and BMW Colour Systems to ensure that apprentices are trained to the highest standards. 

The main duties of the role include:

  • The preparation and application of foundation materials and topcoat
  • An awareness of different paint systems, paint equipment, and special effect paints
  • Quality vehicle checks
  • Dent removal
  • Vehicle Damage Assessments

Your profile

Successful applicants must demonstrate the following:

  • To have good manual dexterity
  • Keen interest in vehicle repairs and an interest in the automotive industry.
  • Full training will be provided
  • Be honest and trustworthy with a willingness to learn
  • Positive attitude and work ethic, with high level of professionalism
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a team in a busy Bodyshop environment, as well as having the capability to follow instructions and work individually

Required Qualifications:

Applicants are required to have, or predicted to obtain, GCSE Grade A*-C / 9-4 or Functional Skills Level 2 (or equivalent) in the following subjects:

  • English
  • Maths
  • ICT (or one other subject if candidate did not take ICT)
  • The successful applicant will be required to hold a valid driving license. However, we will allow up to one year from the start date for the applicant to obtain this license (this is due to the nature of the role).

Prospects:

On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will progress to become a fully qualified Bodyshop Paint Technician.

Qualifications to be achieved:

  • Level 3 Vehicle Damage Paint Technician Apprenticeship Standard. 
  • IMIAL Level 3 Award in Automotive Refrigeration Handling
  • IMIAL Level 2 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicles

Things to Consider:

The expected duration of the apprenticeship is 3 years.

Successful applicants must be prepared to travel to the Bodyshop training facility in Milton Keynes to complete their apprenticeship training. This centre is equipped with BMW cars and BMW colour systems to ensure that apprentices are trained to the highest standards.

Training is completed in one-week blocks, approximately once every two-three months. All training costs are covered by the BMW Retailer/Bodyshop (travel, accommodation, and food)

The Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage guide (ANMW): 21yrs and over is £11.44 ph, 18yrs to 20yrs is £8.60ph, under 18yrs is £6.40ph.
